Back in the early middle ages, there was a story about a young man who was a skilled stone mason. He used heavy hammers and sharp chisels in his trade… he was particularly adept with stone carvings…his skilled, artful hands were the most important element for his success. It was late one evening at nightfall... he was up on the castle’s parapet wall after working since sunrise. He was in the final stages of chisel-carving an ornamental stone that was to be placed in the entry arch of the King’s new castle. The Master Builder had informed him the carved stone must be finished for the next day’s erection schedule. While cradling the stone in his left arm and hand, with a razor sharp chisel braced between his knees, the chisel slipped from the stone as he hit it with his heavy hammer. He was horrified to see that he had almost cut his left hand completely off and was bleeding profusely at his wrist. He was losing blood rapidly and because of the late hour, nobody heard his cries for help. He wrapped his shirt around the deep wound to try to slow the bleeding but was quickly losing his strength and was close to unconsciousness. He had a young wife and son and was terrified he would lose his hand and would not be able to work as a stone carver to support them…or worse yet, he could die. He lay down to conserve his strength, and soon found himself in a dream-like trance where he recalled saying; ”When I wake up tomorrow, my hand will be healed and I can go back to work”. He awoke as the sun came up early the next day lying in a large pool of dried blood. He recalled the horror of his accident but was greatly relieved to know he was still alive. As he slowly sat up, he was shocked to discover his left hand was much the same as his right hand. There was little evidence of the severe cut other than the dried blood. He climbed down the parapet wall and excitedly related his experience to his family. The villagers soon heard and word spread about his miraculous recovery. People from nearby villages came to see and touch his hand. Legend has it that many of those who touched his hand were able to rid themselves from a variety of ailments that afflicted people in those days. Is this legend fact, fable or fiction? No one really knows. Throughout history, there have been many written and anecdotal stories about how the human hand or mind was instrumental in helping people heal. Some have been called miracles. There are many reported instances where “the laying on of hands” has resulted in unexplained or hard to understand healing. Some will say the hand of God… others will relate that there was an epiphany experience… a sudden, striking understanding of the healing power in their mind. The more popular scientific reasons are many, and they all seem to be connected to the almost unlimited power of the human subconscious mind. Modern medicine is advancing at quantum speed. Every day we read about breakthroughs in treating a wide variety of diseases and ailments. Over the years, we have heard of countless cases where a dire or perhaps incurable disease was suddenly reversed with no apparent medical reason. One of the last frontiers of modern medicine is to gain a clear understand of “brain function” and how it effects our healing system. There is wide agreement that the subconscious mind is an enormously powerful healing mechanism.... Welcome to The Universal Healing Hand...the no complaints people. |
